Emberton Potager
Project type
Design and planting
Date
2019- onwards
Location
Bedford
A barn conversion where the client was wonderfully restoring the oak beams removed by the previous owner. As well as reducing the barns to just a roofless wall, it was lovingly rebuilt with the wanted potager being the main focus from the living room.
Havging started site as just an old barn yard, once the builders had cleared and levelled the site, the marking out begun. All focused from the centre of the living room doors. So there was a bit of a wait until these were installed.
Once started, the construction and bed filling commenced. The clients happened to be farmers so had all the machinery to fill the beds which was very handy. Many tonnes later, the topiary was planted and veg sown!
There was a mix of raised beds along with ground beds for the longer term crops such as potatoes, Asparagus and fruit cage. The potager then leads on an orchard and round to the side lawn.
